⏪ QCAP RECAP

Pause, Unwind & Sketch with Radhia Rahman (11/17)

We had an awesome turnout for our second QCAP Art + Mental Health Workshop of the fall, “Pause, Unwind & Sketch,” led by queer Bengali American illustrator/artist Radhia Rahman! Through mindful drawing exercises, Radhia encouraged us to let go of perfection and focus on creating a visual diary. It was a refreshing break from the stress of the semester, allowing us to ground ourselves and reconnect with our creativity. A huge thank you to Radhia for creating such a warm and supportive environment, and to everyone who joined us! This was a wonderful way to collectively unwind and take care of our mental health!

⏪ QCAP RECAP

Comics & Calm with Hyesu Lee (10/14)

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our first QCAP Art + Mental Health Workshop of the fall semester, “Comics & Calm”! Artist/comics creator/educator Hyesu Lee gave a beautiful presentation about her background and her work, and then she led an awesome workshop that emphasized self-care and staying true to ourselves! We had an amazing time creating our own comics while reflecting on our emotions and connecting with each other. Our gratitude to Hyesu for making this workshop such a fun and meaningful experience!

I Stand with Immigrants Day of Action (10/15)

The QCAP Team joined the QC Immigrant Student Support Initiative as part of the I Stand with Immigrants Day of Action happening at hundreds of campuses across the country. We were proud to participate in this important event, to celebrate and stand together with our immigrant and international students and communities. During the event, QCAP Director and English/AACS faculty member Dr. Caroline K. Hong spoke on behalf of QCAP and AACS about how our programs are rooted in histories of resistance, resilience, and solidarity. The stories, struggles, and hopes of our immigrant communities are part of what shape and guide the work we do every day at QC. And we will continue to work hard to fight for a more inclusive and equitable campus and to provide support, resources, and care for our immigrant and international students and all QC students.

AACS x QCAP Chai Chat (10/27)

QCAP and AACS hosted our first Chai Chat of the fall semester—and it was a full house! So many students showed up and stayed to share about traditions that are meaningful to them and to craft little paper pumpkins. QC students are so crafty! We loved seeing everyone chatting and connecting with each other and wanting to learn more about QCAP and AACS. Thank you all for the amazing turnout and thoughtful conversations. We’re so grateful for this growing community, and can’t wait to see you at our next Chai Chat in December! 💗☕️

These resources range from scholarly journals to various podcasts and YouTube channels to local AAPI-serving community organizations, and we try to update these lists regularly. Check them out!

Meet Our QCAP x AACS Mascots!

Happy November, QC students, staff, and faculty!

QCAP wishes everyone a great fall semester. We’d also like to formally introduce everyone to our official QCAP and AACS mascots (or… mascats)!

These two cutie-patooties were designed by our very own student assistant, Sal! When deciding on names our mischievous, curious, and community-engaging kitties, we started by asking our QCAP student leaders (multilingual tutors, interns, and student assistants) to submit name suggestions. Then, our student leaders voted for their the top favorite two names for each cat. After that, we brought these nominations to our QC student community via Instagram to vote. Thanks to everyone’s hard work from design to naming, our QCAP and AACS cats now have super cute and fitting names!

Meet CAPPIE and ACE, the QCAP and AACS (Asian American Community Studies) cat mascots!

You’ll be seeing them around on all our event flyers, social media posts, and throughout our QCAP x AACS student lounge space!

October 2025 Newsletter

Happy Filipino American History Month, Happy Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month, Happy LGBTQ+ History Month, and Happy Mid-Autumn Festival/Chuseok/Tết Trung Thu to everyone celebrating!

Welcome to QCAP’s October 2025 newsletter!

📣 ANNOUNCEMENTS

Stop by the QCAP Community Space during Open Hours!

We have more open hours this semester! Come hang out in Powdermaker Hall 251!

The QCAP Community Space in Powdermaker Hall 251 is open to all QC students! For Fall 2025, we’re open Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 11 AM to 4 PM, when classes are in session. Stop by to study, take a break between classes, grab a snack, and learn more about QCAP and also AACS! We have a microwave, mini fridge, and computer available for student use. Follow us on Instagram @qcap.queens for updates!

Re: the U.S. Department of Education’s Decision to End MSI Funding

As you may have seen on our Instagram or website, QCAP has unfortunately been impacted by the recent decision by the U.S. Department of Education to end federal funding for MSIs (Minority-Serving Institutions) like Queens College. Despite the awful news that QCAP’s funding has been terminated, we at QCAP are determined to continue our important work for and with our incredible QC students. Along with a coalition of AANAPISIs and MSIs across the country, we are fighting hard on behalf of our community and our programs. In the meantime, our Fall 2025 programming continues as planned, and we will keep the campus community updated as we know more. And if you’d like to learn more and get involved, please reach out to us—in person in the QCAP Space or at an upcoming event, via email [email protected], or on Instagram @qcap.queens. We would love to connect with you, and together we can make this our best semester yet!

⏪ QCAP RECAP

AACS x QCAP Fall Kick-off (9/29)!

We had an amazing turnout for the AACS x QCAP Fall Kick-off, celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival/Chuseok/Tết Trung Thu/Tsukimi and autumn vibes! Students came together to decorate paper lanterns and learn about QCAP and AACS. And we spent some time relaxing, reflecting, and connecting while also enjoying delicious buns, samosas, and other snacks from local restaurants. It was a great start to the semester and reminded us of the importance of community. Most importantly, we hope everyone left with something meaningful, whether that’s feeling more represented, learning something new, or feeling inspired to get more involved in our AAPI community at QC. Thank you so much to everyone who joined us! We loved kicking off the semester with you, and we can’t wait to see you at future events!
