The QCAP Student Assistant (Social Media and Outreach) will assist in supporting the QCAP staff in developing graphics and other visual assets, drafting copy for our monthly newsletters, and maintaining relationships with Queens College’s (QC’s) diverse Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) students via our social media channels.

Job Qualifications

  • Queens College student
  • Minimum of 2.5 GPA
  • Proficiency with Canva, Adobe, or other graphic designing programs
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive
  • Experience with running Instagram accounts and other social media and a passion and creativity for content creation, preferably including videos
  • An interest in issues that concern Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities and/or Asian American studies
  • A desire to work for an organization focused on supporting Queens College’s diverse and underserved AAPI students
  • Excellent verbal, written, and visual communications skills, including the abilities to draft warm, professional, and timely communications, write clear and informative copy, and create compelling graphics. Communications should generally be free of grammar and usage errors and should follow professional conventions.
  • The ability to work independently as well as with others, manage time, communicate in a timely manner, troubleshoot challenges, and meet deadlines

Responsibilities

  • Report to the QCAP Program Coordinator
  • Regularly create and post original content on QCAP social media, including text, graphics, and/or videos, with approval from the QCAP Program Coordinator and/or QCAP Directors
  • Attend all QCAP events and post about them on QCAP social media
  • Monitor QCAP social media accounts to engage with our community, including responding to messages in a timely manner and regularly sharing/reposting relevant QC stories
  • Assist with creating QCAP’s monthly newsletter and managing the mailing list
  • Assist with preparing digital and print informational materials for dissemination
  • Assist with developing and executing social media and communication strategies that boost student engagement
  • Assist with brainstorming and executing ideas for QCAP student events and other programming
  • Assist with QCAP outreach to AAPI students and student groups/organizations
  • Other tasks reasonably requested by QCAP

Location/setting: Hybrid
Compensation: $18/hour
Workload: 7-10 hours per week, up to 20 hours per pay period (every two weeks)
Duration: Fall 2024 semester
